According to the outage map for Jersey Central Power & Light, 1,172 customers in Wall Township and 920 customers in Belmar lost service as of 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Apr. 16. That accounts for about 20 percent of Belmar customers and about nine percent of Wall customers.
In a Facebook post, Belmar police said a JCP&L crew was responding to the outage. Belmar's government said the borough hall's phones were working and staff members can help people who need it.
The JCP&L website also estimated power could be restored by 12:30 p.m. It was unclear what knocked out the electricity.
Police also warned drivers to be careful because several traffic lights were not working.
